SECOND GENERATION OSPREY
8.2m Ocenraider powered by twin
175hp Mariners
Repower 2003
The old motors had come close to their use-by date
and after trip where we had to come back without fishing because
of a breakdown then a fair bit of creative accounting I decided
to take advantage of a bad spell of weather and 'just do it'.
The new motors are 115HP Yamaha four strokes (supplied
by Gisborne Marine http://www.gisbornemarine.co.nz/) and although down on power
on the old 175HP models they push the boat along at the same cruising
speed getting us to the fish just as quick.
March 2003
Osprey's new pair 115hp Yamaha 4 stroke outboards
are going well and we can still get a comfortable cruise speed
of 20kts and a top of 28kts, there are no oil fumes from the 4
strokes and very little noise at idle speed. This will make for
trouble free and comfortable trips for quite some time.

We have been
using the new boat for over 3 years now and she is a mean fishing
machine. A lot of great fish have crossed the deck including a
NZ junior record yellowtail of 19.8kg on 8kg line which my son
Robert caught in February.
She cruises easily and
comfortably at 20 knots and can top 28 knots when I lean on the
go handle.
We had charters
for two contests this year and were on the prize list for both.
